Courtauld schedules Rego, Turner and O’Keeffe exhibitions for 2027
The London gallery’s newly announced programme also includes drawing displays and painted wardrobe panels attributed to Vanessa Bell, donated after more than a century in one family.
The Courtauld Gallery has announced a 2027 exhibition and display programme led by ‘Paula Rego: Dog Woman’, ‘Turner and the Landscape Generation. Journeys in Watercolour’, and ‘Georgia O’Keeffe: Ghost Ranch’. Announced on 8 September, the dates are scheduled rather than confirmed openings.
‘Paula Rego: Dog Woman’ is scheduled for 5 February-23 May 2027. The Courtauld describes it as the first retrospective devoted to Rego’s 1994-95 ‘Dog Woman’ pastel series. On the same dates, the Project Space is due to show Rego’s 1996 ‘Pendle Witches’ prints.
Christie’s catalogue records Rego’s pastel ‘Moth’ in the ‘Paula Rego Dog Woman’ exhibition at Marlborough Fine Art in November 1994. That earlier showing provides context for the Courtauld’s more specific claim to be staging the series’ first retrospective.
‘Turner and the Landscape Generation. Journeys in Watercolour’ is scheduled for 18 June-5 September. It will examine journeys and landscape watercolours by J. M. W. Turner, John Constable, Thomas Girtin and John Sell Cotman, with works from the Courtauld and loans from UK collections.
‘Georgia O’Keeffe: Ghost Ranch’ is scheduled for 1 October 2027-30 January 2028. The Courtauld says the exhibition will bring together almost two dozen landscapes made at and around O’Keeffe’s New Mexico home and studio over two decades from the mid-1930s to the 1950s. Most have not previously been shown in the UK, according to the gallery.
A separate display, listed as ‘Georgia O’Keeffe: Photographs at Ghost Ranch’, is also scheduled for those dates. It is to contain about 20 photographs of O’Keeffe at home, drawn from ‘Life’ magazine commissions to Philippe Halsman in 1948 and John Loengard in 1966. An earlier Courtauld announcement gave the display the title Georgia O’Keeffe: ‘Life’ at Ghost Ranch.
The programme’s Project Space will also host ‘Vanessa Bell: A Rediscovery’, scheduled from October 2027 to February 2028. The display centres on two painted wooden wardrobe panels attributed to Bell and made at the Omega Workshops between 1913 and 1916. The Courtauld says the panels were acquired in 1919, remained with the same family thereafter, and were donated to the gallery before a major conservation project. The announcement does not establish their earlier ownership history or turn the attribution into a settled authorship.
