Patrick Heron catalogue raisonné listed for May 2027
Art Publishing says Andrew Wilson’s planned four-volume reference work will catalogue more than 1,000 paintings, with provenance and exhibition records for each entry.

Art Publishing has listed the along awaited ‘Patrick Heron: Catalogue Raisonné of the Oil Paintings’, edited by the art historian and curator Andrew Wilson, for publication in May 2027.
A catalogue raisonné is a systematic catalogue of an artist’s work. Art Publishing says the proposed publication will illustrate and record every oil painting by Heron, whom it dates 1920-1999, a body of more than 1,000 works. Each entry will include an illustration, descriptive information, provenance, exhibition history and bibliography. The volumes are also planned to contain critical essays and an extended chronology.
Wilson is named as author and editor, with Robert James Sutton as assistant editor. Art Publishing says Wilson interviewed Heron during doctoral research on the artist and British abstract painting from 1945 to 1965, and had access to Heron’s archive. The project is supported by the Patrick Heron Trust.
Plans for a reference work on Heron’s paintings predate the current listing, although the available evidence does not trace an unbroken project. A Sotheby’s auction-catalogue page from 2013 said that the Patrick Heron Estate was preparing a catalogue raisonné and invited owners to submit works for inclusion.
