The Wallace Collection has scheduled ‘Rembrandt and Titus: Father and Son’, a ticketed exhibition planned to run from 8 October 2027 to 16 January 2028. The institution says the presentation, made with the Rijksmuseum, will reunite all of Rembrandt’s portraits of Titus with self-portraits by the artist. The proposed exhibition is scheduled to include the Wallace Collection’s late ‘Portrait of Titus’ \(c.1657\). The Collection says the display will trace Titus’s image from boyhood to adulthood. It is due to travel to London after a display at the Rijksmuseum, although the announcement gives no dates or further details for the Amsterdam presentation. According to the Wallace Collection, more than 20 works by Rembrandt of himself and Titus will be shown, including ‘Self-Portrait with Two Circles’ \(1665-1669\), on loan from English Heritage. The institution also lists planned loans of paintings and works on paper from the National Gallery in London, the Kunsthistorisches Museum in Vienna, the Baltimore Museum of Art and the Musée du Louvre in Paris. Lucy Davis, the Wallace Collection’s curator of paintings and co-curator of the exhibition, says the reunion is intended to allow visitors to follow the parent-child relationship across Titus’s short life. The institution says the self-portraits will place that relationship alongside Rembrandt’s personal and professional difficulties.
